Full moon, heart and intentions

Magnetic Full Moon

Super Harvest Moon of September 2015

Do you remember the super moon of September 28? It was the biggest full moon of the year combined with a total lunar eclipse, unfortunately invisible on my side of the globe. Magnetic, this harvest moon was a great time to express our gratitude for what we have and formulate our intentions for the upcoming month.

In Ubud, special ceremonies are always held during a full moon. It is believed that Gods are coming to Earth to give their blessings. Therefore, it is the ideal time for healing, receiving guidance and releasing what no longer serves us.

The temples are festively decorated with bright color fabrics. Nearby, you can see women carrying huge pyramid-shaped offerings on their head. At home, more baskets of offerings woven by hand are placed outside the entrance of the house and some are stacked in the family temple with incense sticks and treats for the Gods such as fruits, a glass of coffee, cooked rice, cookies, cigarettes and money.

“Better to prepare a small offering with all of your heart than giving a lot without any intention.” a smart advice given by the owner of the guest houses Puri Bayu and Puri Cantik where I stayed on my arrival.

Purification rite
In the evening, as many Balinese, I went to purify myself under the protective eye of the full moon in the sacred waters of a well-known site among locals. The energy of this place is very strong and special. I went there with two local friends who had invited me to do the ritual with them. They brought two nice boxes of offerings filled with flowers and treats.

I was touched to see very young children sitting on the ground through the flowers tips praying alongside their parents. I wanted to watch their gestures to remind me what I will have to do once I in front of the temple.

I went in the water with an immense sense of gratitude and excitement. Besides the freshness of the water, I really felt that all three waterfalls had a liberating and mystical effect. While in the water, I sent my intentions to the universe and ask for its guidance for the next step to take after my stay in Ubud. The answer was as clear as the sacred water flowing over this magical site. Why should I leave when I feel like home here?

After the ritual, we changed and picked up the two baskets of offerings and we ate the treats in the baskets while sharing our own experience.

Back to basics – the charm of Penestanan
Young I was eager to leave my village to go explore the big city. Today, I realize that I am not a city girl anymore. The quietness and that sense of mutual aid so present here in the village of Penestanan – where I live since late September – charmed me and comforted me the minute I walked here.

People now starts to know me. Well, easy I guess with my short curly hair 🙂 and I’m one of the few walking while everyone travels by motorbike (too hot and too long for them they say). The area where I live is not accessible by car due to the narrow roads leading to the various houses and villas.

What I like above all is the contact with the locals. In the morning I greet women with a “Selamat Pagi” (good morning!) and they respond me back with their bright eyes and their big smile despite the heavy loads they carry on their head or in the wheelbarrow they push to the construction site. A simple gesture that fulfils my day. I am still surprised when someone is saying: “Nathalie, apa kabar?” (how are you?) They have a very good memory.

The first time I went to buy some fruits and peanuts in a small shop, I asked the owner Komang, if she had papayas. “Wait, she told me, I’ll go get one in the tree.” She gave it to me and adds, “You’ll tell me if it’s good.” She didn’t want me to pay for it because it was coming from the tree. It was not like the other goods that she purchases for resale in order to make a little money to send her two boys at school (which is not free in Indonesia). Since then, whenever I pass in front of her small shop, I stop by to say hello and she thanks me for taking the time to do so. This is what a call a nice village life.

Kadek, the friendly and endearing maid of the house where I live, said something to me shortly after my arrival that really touched me.

She told me with her hand on her heart, “Nathalie, you have a good heart and the Gods will love your presence here .. and everything will be easy for you.”

Thank you dear Gods to facilitate my visit on your beautiful land where I decided to live for the next months. My visa will be processed and regularized through a sponsorship that will allow me to live here until March without having to leave the country. I ‘m planning to visit other parts of Bali and the country … and of course I will share it with you.

“Ubud is a city that will do everything to make you stay or everything to make you leave.”… An adage heard from two foreign friends living here.

It’s like in life in general. Our life is a cycle closely linked to our perception and our state of being. Life smiles at you when you are feeling blessed and you are feeling blessed when life smiles at you.

Happy Birthday Mom!
